Philadelphia Sports, Meet Resale

This post is sure to bore if not alienate a few readers, but so be it. What’s the saying? You can take the girl out of Pennsylvania, but… you know the rest.

I grew up about an hour outside of Philadelphia — where our well water basically ran green (go Eagles). Even after moving to DC, I found myself in strong company amongst Philadelphia sports fans. After all, our home base was just up the street, basically. No biggie.

Blue mesh jersey with red and white Philadelphia "ill" lettering

One of my favorite Philadelphia sports resale finds.

Moving to Colorado, though, was a seismic change. Not quite as many Eagles, Sixers, Phillies, or Flyers stickers, flags, or regalia to be found. When the Eagles played the Broncos in 2021 in an unusual scheduling matchup, I was there — and the experience was very Philadelphia, through-and-through. A comfortable, familiar, lovely gift, sealed with a team W, too.

If you pay any attention to sports — and I recognize that the overlap between my resale enthusiasts and my sports enthusiasts may be small, to say the least — you know that Philadelphia sports are absolutely on fire right now. As of this writing, the Eagles are undefeated, the Phillies lead the Padres in the National League Championship Series (update as of 10/23: the Phillies are going to the World Series — play the song!), and the 76ers and the Flyers just kicked off their seasons.

Most of my Philadelphia sports gear was purchased on resale apps, pre-dominantly Poshmark. One of my favorite pieces is a sleeveless mesh jersey: versatile enough to brandish at nearly any Philadelphia sporting event.

In honor of my beloved, I wanted to share a few fun Philadelphia sports finds currently listed across resale apps. If you are not a Philadelphia sports fan and are thinking to yourself, ‘OK, I like this conceptually, but how do I find this stuff for my own city/team?’ — I got you. Just drop me a line if you want some help or tips.

The same criteria that I recommend for usual resale shopping still applies — for example:

  • Ask about item quality, condition, measurements, etc.

  • For sports gear, which has a higher likelihood of being worn to a game, bar, or party, I would specifically ask if there are any odors or stains if purchasing from a peer-to-peer platform (examples: Poshmark or Depop)

  • Check or inquire about shipping times. If you’re interested in a piece for an upcoming game, make sure it’ll actually arrive on time!

In the meanwhile, though, here are a few of my Philadelphia favorites, currently listed for sale. Enjoy.
