Where Are The Digital Consignment Apps for Everyday Menswear?

A friend recently reached out sharing that he had about 50 pieces from his closet that he wanted to consign. He was looking for a low-effort solution — not a high-effort, peer-to-peer experience like Poshmark, Depop, or eBay. Basically, he wanted thredUP for men. With the exception of a few items, his pieces weren’t luxury — but they weren’t value-brands, either. They were mid-level, corporate tech dude stuff: blazers, belts, dress pants, button-downs, etc. J.Crew, Ralph Lauren, that kinda thing.

So… what’s a guy to do? thredUP, as of this writing, doesn’t actually list menswear — though they will donate it, per a customer service representative (though you do have to specifically select “Donate” when submitting your info). The RealReal has an extensive menswear collection, but is primarily limited to higher-end and luxury designers. Notably, they accept brands like Polo Ralph Lauren, Nike, Adidas, and other mid-level brands — but those brands don’t make up the bulk of their accepted designers list.

But outside of that, options are relatively limited. There are a smattering of other vintage and luxury consignment options, and of course menswear is prolific across peer-to-peer apps like Poshmark and Depop, but the “mail it in and forget about it” ease of thredUP for clothing that is not luxury seems like a gap in the market. Of course we love supporting local as much as we’re able, but sometimes dropping off a box at the post office is way easier than hauling it across town to a consignment store that may or may not accept your items, ya know?

Interestingly, for outdoorsy and active mesnwear brand loyalists, the options are mightier: brands like Lululemon, Eddie Bauer, The North Face, and REI all have used gear and apparel programs for men.

This friend ended up sending in his items to Crossroads Trading — a company we historically haven’t covered much here at TSL. They send a bag, you send it back, and they’ll donate whatever they don’t accept. See here for their selling guide.

So, dear reader, we want to know: Have you felt the pain of struggling to find an easy consignment option for everyday menswear? How have you solved it? What options exist out there that aren’t on our radar? Do you want to see more options for “everyday” on our Resale Matrix?
